Let us think back to a quaint and simple time. A time before Disney fired James Gunn, who was set to helm the next entry in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Just prior to San Diego Comic-Con, the filmmaker teased an upcoming Hall H panel with Sony, but on the heels of the whole fiasco surrounding him and Disney, that was understandably canned.

But with Disney no longer wanting to touch anything related to James Gunn with a ten-foot pole, would he face the same kind of ridicule from other studios? As we reported on in the past, despite his controversial statements on Twitter several years back, others seem more than willing to give him another shot, and if we’re to believe this new report from release schedule from Sony, they are ready to make that first move.

In that report, it is stated that a currently-untitled James Gunn horror movie is set to hit theaters on November 30. If you are one of those people who thinks perhaps this is a mistake, and that maybe they will be pulling it from that schedule, you’d be wrong, as they have confirmed the film to Screen Rant.

But would Sony be willing to hire James Gunn again? Given the low budget nature of the film (it is released under the Screen Gems imprint), it’s likely this film has been in the can for quite some time, meaning that it would be foolish for the studio to sit on it, so it’s still not clear if they’d go forward with a new project in the future.

Given Gunn’s love for the genre of horror, I’m sure many old-school fans will be happy to see him return in this form, even if he won’t be there for the next Guardians film.
