Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have just dropped a little Labor Day weekend treat for us! This week, DC dropped their first trailer for this year’s DC FanDome. As well as a list of what kind of announcements and reveals that we can expect from the second year of the event. One of those films is the Aquaman sequel mentioned above. Today star of the film Jason Momoa, who plays Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, shared two images of him in a costume that you can check out down below along with the links from the original posts.

As you can see, the first image shows him in the traditional Aquaman costume that we all know. The second one is a new suit that we are going to see. James Wan, director of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, gave us some insight into what exactly we are looking at. He had also posted the two images at the same time.
Wan said, “Here’s @prideofgypsies (Momoa) in the classic #Aquaman suit AND a sneak peek at his other outfit — the stealth suit. Atlantean tech based on cephalopod’s camouflaging ability. David Leslie Johnson and I were inspired by the 80’s “blue suit”.

It is well known that Cephalopods like Octopuses and Squids are masters at creating color patterns that closely resemble the seafloor. We can get more into the science behind this but that it now why we are here. They are incredible animals with many cool abilities.
As far as that 80’s inspiration, you can look no further than the four-issue miniseries that was Aquaman’s first Post-Crisis appearance in 1986. It was designed by writer DC production designer Neal Pozner. Just like with cephalopods, it allowed him to camouflage in the water.
It is a great alternative look for Aquaman and it makes sense that he would take advantage of some of the creatures’ abilities. What do you think of the different look for Momoa’s Aquaman? Personally, I think it looks a lot better than it did in the comics. Let us know in the comment section below!
Currently, Warner Bros. Pictures Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released on December 22nd, 2022.
