Jared Leto Still Returning As The Joker In Gotham City Sirens And Suicide Squad 2

DC and Warner Bros. shocked the world today when they announced plans for a Joker origin film that will NOT star Jared Leto and will NOT be a part of the official DC Extended Universe. Does this mean Leto and the Joker are out of the DCEU? Or is this town big enough for two Jokers?

Buried in Deadline’s article announcing this new Joker film, it is mentioned that Jared Leto will revisit his version of Joker in both the sequel to Suicide Squad and the other Harley Quinn spinoff, Gotham City Sirens.

Leto’s appearance Suicide Squad 2 was always assumed, as DC must have big DCEU plans for their most popular villain, and Suicide Squad 2 and The Batman make the most sense for possible Joker appearances. One could have also assumed that Gotham City Sirens would feature the clown prince of crime, as it stars Harley Quinn and is directed by Suicide Squad’s David Ayer, who had a hand in crafting Leto’s version of the character. Still, this is the first official confirmation that Leto is in both films, simultaneously reassuring us that Leto’s Joker is still a big part of the DCEU proper, and might be featured as a main villain yet.

Are you pleased that Jared Leto will continue to play Joker in the DCEU? Or were you as unimpressed and annoyed with his performance in Suicide Squad as I was? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
