In the recent Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jennifer Connelly’s vocal skills were utilized as Karen, the A.I. in Spider-Man’s suit. It was an unexpected and surprising role, and one that served as a great character for Peter to bounce ideas off of.

However, the last we heard of the character was before Peter got his suit taken away. Additionally, we know that he will be donning the Iron Spider suit in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. With that in mind, when speaking with Jennifer Connelly at a roundtable interview earlier this week for Only the Brave, it was asked if she knew if Karen would be making a return in the near future.

Here’s what Connelly had to say:

“I don’t know. I hope so. I had a great time doing it. It’s certainly a wonderful universe to be a part of.”

This response is not incredibly surprising. Actors are usually the last to know anything about characters coming back, and when your own character is a voice, your contribution could potentially be added even later in the game, depending on the production.

We’ll just have to wait and see if Karen’s voice makes it over to the Iron Spider suit in Avengers: Infinity War.

  • Bring her back as Betty Ross…she’d be more age appropriate for Ruffalo than Johansson’s Black Widow!

You will confuse people as they’ve already made the connection with the Liv Tyler universe. I’m all for bringing them both back, but Connelly could play someone new.

      • There’s already a bit of a disconnect with Norton/Banner, no? Plus, Hulk was aaaaaaaages ago =p

  • Kronx

Hmmm. Could be Jocasta or Visions’ wife, Virginia., somewhere down the road.

  • Smerdyakov

Giving Spider-Man’s suit all those gadgets and an outboard A.I. was really raping the character.

    • MoyBoto

not really.. nearly all of the gadgets (ie. variations of webbing uses, spider tracers) have appeared in the comics

Yes, but while I understand why they wouldn’t want to retread the origin story again, reducing the importance of Uncle Ben in Peter’s life to an off-the-cuff mention, and making his life’s mission impressing Tony Stark instead of living up to the potential that his aunt and uncle saw and him all along, moved everything in the wrong direction and made this film (at its core) an Iron Man film.

How was it an iron man film at its core?

It was all about Peter’s high school Angst juggled against the backdrop of being a superhero- it was a Spider-Man story at its core. The time he spent with a talking suit doesn’t change that.

I do agree that this version of Spiderman would need to eventually flesh out the tragedy of Peter’s family life and Uncle Ben, to fully capture all facets of Spider-man. The movie acknowledged that it happened which was enough for now because of all the reboots. I do strongly feel and believe that they will take the opportunity to do that in the sequel amidst the fallout of infinity war. However, it was definitely NOT an iron man movie at its core. Spiderman ditching the suit in the final act reinforced that it was never about the suit.

being 15 years old hormonal boy and having Jennifer Connelly whisper in you’re ear….. I’m back to watching Career Opportunities.

Definitely in support of bringing Ms. Connelly back in another MCU movie, my first preference would be a return as Betty Ross (she was better than Liv Tyler, and they already recast Banner so obviously they aren’t super tied to the 2008 movie even if they claim it to be part of the official cannon) she’d be great opposite Mark Ruffalo.
Karen the Suit Lady is also fun, totally in favor of her being there next time we see Peter suit up as Spidey.
And as an entirely different character might be cool too, Jocasta as someone else suggested might be fun.
Or, maybe the coolest would be if she was a villain, honestly the weakest part of the Avengers movies for me have been the villains, they have been kinda lame, and Jennifer could totally pull of a really badass villain, she has a gravitas and also a really good RBF, plus acting talent that could really lend itself to a great villain, I’m not sure why she hasn’t been cast as one before in her career (well we will see her as one in Alita: Battle Angel next year actually now that I think about it, but I bet that will prove my point that she would make a great villain.)

Side note: If the MCU doesn’t snap her up again, DCU should, she’d make a great Cat Woman, and would be age appropriate opposite Ben Affleck.

I loved her in spiderman and yes I want her to voice Karen in all the movies
