Luca debuts this weekend exclusively on Disney+. In this film, we find a young sea monster eager to explore the dry world up above. Little Mermaid much? For me as a parent of a ten-year-old, I know that my child is going to start wanting more and more freedom. Something that I will have to figure out how to balance. Lorenzo and Daniela Paguro are dealing with Luca wanting to go to the surface where their kind is misunderstood and thus seen as a threat and hunted. But of course, Luca’s curiosity gets the better of him.
In the film we see a defiant Luca go on an adventure with his new friend Alberto on dry land. Their goal is to obtain the mythical Vespa so that they can, in their minds, venture anywhere around the world. All while his parents desperately follow up above to try and find their missing son.
Here is the synopsis for Disney/Pixar’s Luca
Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca (voice of Jacob Tremblay) shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, Alberto (voice of Jack Dylan Grazer), but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”).
Ahead of Luca‘s release this weekend, LRM Online’s Emmanuel Gomez talked with Jim Gaffigan. He lends his voice to the film as Lorenzo Paguro, Luca’s father. We talk about his experience as a father and how it relates to his character. As well as children’s curiosity to explore the world and how that affects parents who have been so protective. It’s a great conversation that you can check out down below!
Be sure to check out Luca this Friday, June 18th exclusively on Disney+.
