Jimmy Olsen Series DC Crime Is A Go At HBO – As Is V For Vendetta Series

The DCU Jimmy Olsen series recently greenlit is NOT called DC Crime as per the initial trade report.

The DCU Jimmy Olsen led series DC Crime is a go at HBO, as is another DC property with a V for Vendetta TV series. The DC Crime news comes from Variety. As does the V for Vendetta news in a separate article.

Let’s begin with a series we knew was in development, a Jimmy Olsen series set in the DCU post-Superman. The trade reports that the series has been picked up by HBO, will star Skyler Gisondo and the first series will introduce Gorilla Grodd to the DCU.

‘DC Studios and HBO Max are developing a fictional true crime series set in the DC Universe.’

‘Titled “DC Crime,” the show would be presented as a true crime docuseries that would be hosted by Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo). The first season would focus on Gorilla Grodd, a DC villain best known for his battles with The Flash.’

‘Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault would serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on the series. James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios would also executive produce, with DC Studios’ Galen Vaisman overseeing production. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.’

As for V for Vendetta? As per the trade,

‘A “V for Vendetta” TV series is currently in development at HBO, Variety has learned exclusively.’

‘According to sources, Pete Jackson is attached to write the series adaptation. James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios will executive produce, as will Ben Stephenson via Poison Pen and Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media, which is part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK. Warner Bros. Television will produce.’

Whilst it’s not stated, I would assume this series is set in it’s own Universe and not Gunn’s DCU. Maybe I’m being ignorant but I don’t think the comics were set in the superhero DC Universe either? I could be wrong, so feel free to check that out for yourself.

Given the political climate we are living in, I get the feeling a V for Vendetta series could be quite well done with a good writing team. Let’s see how it progresses.

What do you think of the news that the Jimmy Olsen DC Crime series and a V for Vendetta series are in development at HBO? Thoughts below.
