Things are getting more official over at DC for their new separate universe. As we’ve been reporting for a while, director Todd Phillips is hard at work at developing a standalone Joker movie with actor Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. Now, we have an official title and release date for the flick.
The movie is set to be short and sweet: Joker. I like it. It’s easy to memorize, and it packs a punch thanks to the character’s history. It’s release date: October 4, 2019.

The news came on late Wednesday courtesy of Warner Bros. themselves at San Diego Comic-Con.
Unlike the other DC films that have hit as of late, Joker will only feature a $55 million budget, and will set to be more of a gritty, grounded take on the character’s origin. This will be the first film in DC’s darker branding that will all take place outside the DC Extended Universe.
