Is it a sequel is it a reboot? This question has been up in the air for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which had initially was said to be a reboot that would not follow David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film from 2016. It was even reported that Idris Elba would possibly be playing Deadshot in the film, a move that would see Will Smith’s character replaced. But soon news came out that Elba’s character would not be Deadshot in order to possibly bring back Smith in the future.
We also found out that Margot Robbie would be reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Today we have learned via Instagram that Joel Kinnaman will also be returning to The Suicide Squad and reprise his role as Rick Flag. You can check out the post from his personal profile below!

Rick Flag is often the leader of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X. I thought he did a great job as Flag in the first film, so it’s great to hear that he is returning. Along with these returning cast members we know that John Cena and Daniela Melchior are being considered for key roles in the film. It had been reported a few weeks ago that Gunn has completed assembling his team, hopefully we learn about a few more roles in the upcoming days.
