John Boyega’s star has been on the rise ever since he landed a lead role in the new Star Wars trilogy. He made his presence felt in 2015’s smash hit kickoff to that trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the guilt-ridden Stormtrooper Finn. Soon after that, Boyega landed his next major project: A sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim.
Boyega is taking over as the lead for the sequel, stepping in for former lead Charlie Hunnam who left the franchise to reboot King Arthur with Guy Ritchie. His character, Jake Pentecost, will be the focal point of Pacific Rim: Uprising. That’s not the only big change for the sequel, as Steven S. DeKnight has taken over as director with Del Toro opting to merely produce.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is set to arrive on February 23, 2018.
