For a brief moment this morning, SoundCloud was housing John Carpenter’s new rendition of the classic Halloween theme for the upcoming film due out in October. However, as of the publishing of this article, SoundCloud has since taken down the track. No reason has been given for the pull, but what was once a 2+ minute track with the face of Michael Myers is now an error page saying “We can’t find this sound.”
However, having listened to the track before it was removed, I can do my best to describe the theme. I’m no music major, but my history of playing Alto Saxophone and two Music Appreciation courses in college should be enough to discuss it, right?… Yeah, probably not, but I’ll still do my best.

The original, eerie and creepy piano tune that has hovered over the horror franchise is of course still there. There’s no getting rid of that. It’s part of the character’s DNA. What has been added is what seems to be a full orchestra behind the haunting piano. After the eighth measure, part of the orchestra makes it self known as the beat drops. By the halfway point of the track, the orchestra in its entirety compliments the tickling of the ivories. Imagine a combination of Carpenter’s original and John Ottman’s theme for Halloween H20. Carpenter’s new rendition of the classic score gives the listener the realization that not only is this the same Michael and Laurie from 1978, but that this battle 40 years later is something to be remembered.
Halloween opens nationwide October 19th.
