A John Constantine film is in development at DC Studios according to a new report and Francis Galluppi has been tapped to write it. The report by Deadline says Galluppi (Evil Dead Wrath) will get the first go at the script for the film.
As per the trade,
‘With Clayface still shapeshifting his way through theaters — to over $90M worldwide, so far — DC Studios has tapped Francis Galluppi to pen a John Constantine movie for the studio, sources tell Deadline.’
‘Reps for DC declined to comment. We understand the project is in very early development; there aren’t yet other attachments that we’re aware of. This comes ahead of the release of Evil Dead Wrath, the seventh installment in the iconic horror franchise, which marks Galluppi’s entrée into studio filmmaking.’

Keanu Reeves played the last movie interpretation of this character in Constantine, which only recently he said they were still trying to make a sequel. Given this appears to be a brand new pitch it makes a sequel to that film unlikely now.
A TV series of the same name starring Matt Ryan faded away during a different era for the studio. Only one season was ever made and so outside of the comic book medium, this character hasn’t exactly set box offices alight. For now there’s no word on whether this is DCU or outside of that universe. However, it would be unlikely this is not set in the relatively new DCU. That’s if it ever gets greenlit, which remains to be seen and is partly up to Galluppi.
Leave any thoughts below on this potential new John Constantine movie.
