Indy 5 is happening, but will John Rhys Davies be back? What the story of Indy 5 will be is unknown at this time, but there is one question on fans minds. Will Salah be back for his third appearance in an Indy movie?
John Rhys Davies played Indy’s friend Salah in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, Salah did not appear (for good reason) in either Temple of Doom, or that other nameless Indy movie. Salah was absent from those movies because Indy did not travel to Egypt, which is where Salah lives. I have heard that Rhys Davies was offered a small cameo in the unmentionable Indy movie and turned it down. Honestly, I think unless the script was changed, it would have felt daft in that movie.
The point is, the question of whether Salah is in Indy 5 may be totally dependent on where James Mangold decides to set his story? From John Rhys Davies point of view though, he’s ready and hoping he gets the nod for Indy 5. The veteran actor recently spoke to Coming Soon, and was asked about Indy 5.

“I understand the film is going to be made, allegedly in May, I have the slightest skepticism that the world will be able to shoot a movie like that in May. I suppose it is possible that I will be asked to be in it. If nominated I will serve! (laughs) But I think we ought to wait a little bit longer and, you know, let our masters actually make announcements and then you can either share my joy or my disappointment. Is that suitably diplomatic?”
Essentially it sound like Rhys Davies has not been yet asked to appear in Indy 5. However he does appear keen if asked, though maybe not for one silly cameo scene. Again though, I think if Indy 5 is not set in Egypt at some point, it would not feel natural for Salah to show up? That’s just my own opinion, but I’d dearly love to see Indy and Salah on screen one more time. The actors in question have aged gracefully together and it would be very cool.
