Joker: Todd Phillips Would Do A Sequel If Joaquin Phoenix Wanted

While the DC Extended Universe hasn’t panned out exactly as Warner Bros. would have hoped, it does seem to slowly be picking up steam. Additionally, it seems to have woken up the studio to the idea of exploring more than one avenue with their properties. Most notable here is the upcoming Joker movie, which is being treated more like a prestige project than your average comic book movie.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, this Todd Phillips-directed film is set to have a gritty 80s-style crime film vibe. Nothing about the project really screams sequel bait, does it? Well, that’s not to say it can’t someday spawn a sequel. After all, if Phoenix’s portrayal is well-received, audiences may very well want more. But what about Todd Phillips himself?

Speaking with Total Film Magazine, Phillips said:

“One thing I will tell you: I would do anything with Joaquin, any day of the week. There’s nobody like him. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, ‘You know what? If you guys could think of something…’ Well, I have a feeling that he and I could think of something pretty cool.”

Of course, this is all coming ahead of its actual release in theaters. For all we know, it’ll be a real stinker of a film. That being said, having seen the film’s trailer drop ahead of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, it’s difficult not to take the movie seriously in terms of its quality.

It may be too early to say, but what do you think of Phillips being willing to do a sequel to his movie? Sound off down below!
