Jon Watts Is NOT Signed On For More Spider-Man Films At Sony

What If...? will feature Spider-Man

When Deadline first broke the news that Sony and Marvel were going their separate ways in regards to Spider-Man, it was also written that Watts and Tom Holland were expected to return for two more Spider-Man films. However, the outlet has since updated their piece with some extra details regarding Watts’ current predicament.

According to them, Watts has not signed on for another Spider-Man film, and as such, his return isn’t an absolute certainty. Additionally, Watts is reportedly being courted heavily for other jobs, though by whom is still not known (though, given Spider-Man: Far From Home’s success, I”m sure it’s pretty much all of them).

This is especially disappointing for me. While Spider-Man leaving the MCU is a huge disappointment in and of itself as it is, I was holding out that there could be some coherence in style and tone with the previous films. If he doesn’t sign on, we really don’t know what to expect from this third film, and other than Holland, there would seem to be no real connective tissue going forward.
