Jordan Peele In Talks To Produce Candyman Remake

It looks like Jordan Peele is continuing to attach himself to many different spooky projects, with is perfectly in-line with the reputation he established for himself after directing last year’s hit film Get Out. In addition to taking on projects like The Twilight Zone and Lovecraft Country, he’s now in talks to produce a remake for the 1992 horror film Candyman, Bloody Disgusting reports.

The original film was based on a Clive Barker short story called “The Forbidden,” and the synopsis for said adaptation is as follows:

“Student Helen Lyle learns of the terrifying local legend of The Candyman — a hooked serial killer who appears when you say his name in a mirror five times.”

“Her investigations of the Candyman legend lead her to his fabled haunts. But, when she ignores locals’ warnings, a series of gruesom murders begins.”

“Could the legend really be true?”

The film has been dormant for nearly 20 years, with the last one being released in 1999, so I think plenty of time has passed to for this one to be ready for a solid remake.

The outlet continues, stating that the rights to this gem have become available recently, and while we don’t know who the current rights holder is now, we do know that Peele could produce the film through his Monkeypaw Productions. Will he direct? There’s no word on that front yet, but we’ll have to wait and see, as we know he’s currently working on another film called Us, which they’re hoping to release next year.
