Josh Brolin Talks about Playing Thanos Against Everyone

There’s a certain anticipation and expectation for anyone who would play Thanos in the Marvel Universe. The antagonist must have a terrifying and intimidating presence that could even strike fear into the hearts of The Avengers.

And Josh Brolin will be that Thanos.

Latino-Review.com was present at a roundtable with Brolin at the Los Angeles press junket for “Inherent Vice,” in which he played Detective Christian “Big Foot” Bojornsen. The full transcript of that interview will be published later in the week, but Brolin did mention a few things about his upcoming role for Thanos.

So what attracted Brolin to play Thanos in the first place? He credited to Louis D’Esposito while he was looking for something different to do.

He explained:

“It’s just different, man. It’s just different. I don’t have a thing [since] I only do smaller films. It’s not like I wanted to do this or only wanted to do that. I read a story and go ‘Wow. That’s cool.’ I wanted to get into this genre or I wanted to get into that genre.

“So Thanos came along. I had a good friend, Louis D’Esposito, who was a first [assistant director] and now co-president of Marvel, who he and I used to trade together. We did “Hollow Man” together. He called and started to talk about this thing. I intimately talked to him about it.”

He even dropped a few tidbits and explained his nervousness on playing the character.

“I love the idea of Thanos. Ultimately, it’s Thanos against everyone. Oh, why wouldn’t you want to do that? To which it’s a strange thing. I was more nervous doing that than I think I’ve been a long time. When I was in front of 32 little cameras with my face sprayed painted with iridescent paint and all that. It was very, very different. It’s fun. It’s different.

“When I saw what they did that was exciting even though it was for a minute or two minutes. It was really exciting for the possibilities of what it could become. Not as an idea or a blockbuster, but as just something different. The character mentality is just like a different character. It’s fun. It’s all fun, man.”

It’ll be a lot of fun for the Marvel fans. Do expect Thanos taking on The Avengers in the upcoming two-part movie “Avengers: Infinity War” in 2018 and 2019. And maybe an appearance in the sequel “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
