Jumanji: Awkwafina In Talks To Join Family Adventure Sequel

It looks like the talent involved with the upcoming sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is about to expand. Of course, the film already features some stellar acting talent in the form of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas, who are reprising their roles from the first film. But, as with any sequel, it is bound to bring with it some brand-new characters.

THR is reporting that rapper-turned-actress Awkwafina is in final negotiations to join the family adventure sequel. The specific role she will be playing is currently under wraps, but it’s said to be “key” and “significant.” The film will also be bringing back director Jake Kasdan, who will also serve as the writer, working alongside JumanjiWelcome to the Jungle Scribes Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.

Awkwafina appeared twice in huge films last year in the form of Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, the latter of which went on to be something of a cultural phenomenon. As such, it’s no surprise she’s getting more studios knocking on her door.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was certainly an unexpected surprise back when it came out. Not only was it a genuinely fun and engaging film, but it somehow killed it at the box office, taking in $962 million worldwide, despite opening around the same time as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, cementing its place as a big franchise.
