Kang And He Who Remains – Jonathan Majors Opens Up

In dramatic news, Jonathan Majors is fired as Kang after receiving a guilty verdict against him, so what's next for the MCU?

Actor Jonathan Majors opens up about playing both Kang and He Who Remains in the MCU. Majors made his debut as one version of Nathaniel Richards, He Who Remains in the Loki finale. However as warned by HWR, killing him will unleash far worse versions of himself, hinting at Kang the Conqueror. Majors will make his next appearance within Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, probably as Kang, but we don’t know for certain yet.

There is a new episode of Assembled out on Disney+ and it’s worth watching to hear what Jonathan Majors had to say alone. Majors began by talking a little about how he played He Who Remains, describing the character as below.

“The archetype of the wizard and what happens to him when he gets bored and becomes a trickster.”

“I think when we meet He Who Remains he’s on the borderline of those two things. You don’t really know where he’s at and I think the ambiguity of that is one of the wicked things about it.”

“He Who Remains has lived forever. One of the great things I got to experience with our costume designer is that every piece we decided on was from a different place. The cape I had on was from the Victorian era. The shoes were from Genghis Khan. The pants from Mongolia, etc. You just mix and match it together and it informs the character.”

Majors did go on to tease a little of what comes next though.

“I think with He Who Remains, the objective for me was to give me the largest canvas possible. From that, as Kang begins to rear his head and do his deeds, in many ways, he has no choice but to be in opposition or be different from He Who Remains. That was the thing that grabbed me and pulled me into the role. Kang lives in so many iterations as He Who Remains says: ‘Reincarnation, baby.'”

I can’t wait to see where all this goes and I hope Kang won’t ultimately be dealt with until Avengers 5. What do you think about Majors comments around Kang and He Who Remains? Leave any thoughts below as always.
