Karen Gillan Talks What’s Next For Nebula Following The Death Of Thanos

MCU Star Karen Gillan talks what’s next for Nebula following the death of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Read on for more details.

One of the MCU’s most interesting characters for me is Nebula. It’s such a complex journey that Nebula and actress Karen Gillan have gone on so far. When we first met Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, I didn’t think all that much of her. I love the movie and I liked Nebula, but the character was very one dimensional. Guardians was all about Gamora’s growth though, not Nebula. Nebula’s journey wouldn’t really begin until Guardians 2, and in that sequel, Nebula was fast becoming one of my favorite characters.

Nebula went through some more growth in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. She’s gone from cold henchmen, to anti-hero, to full hero in four movies. It’s a really great character arc that actress Karen Gillan has had with Nebula, but what comes next? Gillan recently appeared during a virtual panel at GalaxyCon Live. You can catch the video in full below, but here are the most relevant quotes.

“I’m sort of thinking about future Nebula in the sense like, ‘What is she going to be like now that that person’s abuse has gone out of her life? How is she going to build herself back up again?’ Because it’s an odd feeling, I think, for someone who’s been abused by a parent, because they still love them and they’re sad that they’re gone, but also they hate them and they’re glad that they’re gone.”

Gillan went on to say that she’s, “interested to maybe try and take [Nebula] to a place now where she’s starting to rebuild her life.”

What's next for Nebula following the death of Thanos

I can totally relate to how Gillan describes Nebula’s state of mind. My own parents were great, but I know people who grew up with parents who were not. I could never understand why they were so sad to see them ill or dying until someone explained it to me. Nebula is feeling these complex emotions whilst the rest of the Universe celebrates Thanos death. It’s going to be interesting to see how Nebula evolves as a more moral character and a part of the Guardians family. Can’t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, whenever it eventually arrives.

What do you think of Gillan’s comments? What’s next for Nebula following the death of Thanos? Leave your thoughts below as always.
