The four Avatar sequels coming from James Cameron just added a big name. Deadline reports that Kate Winslet is signed on for a starring role in the upcoming Avatar films, though how many of the four sequels she will be in is unknown.
We do, however, know her character name. James Cameron, who directed Winslet in Titanic two decades ago, had this to say of her casting:
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
No word yet if Ronal is a human, a Na’vi, or some new creature Cameron has dreamed up.

Cameron began production on the many Avatar sequels on September 25. The plan is to simultaneously motion capture Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, with the two films going through post-production sequentially. As soon as Avatar 3 hits theaters, Cameron will repeat the process with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. The scripts are apparently already complete and everything has been designed, according to James Cameron.
The four films have release dates of December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025, respectively.
