Here’s my review of Daredevil: Born Again S2E01 and so far there’s little to blow me away, but it’s a decent start. I won’t spoil any details, but let’s at least recap to where we begin. Fisk is Mayor of NYC and has outlawed vigilante’s, introduced his own personal police and opened up the docks to his criminal enterprises. Matt and Karen need to go underground and get help to try and bring down Fisk.
We begin with a nice action scene and the aftermath gives us an excuse to catch up with where everyone is at. Time has passed and not all relationships are on the same footing as they were in Season 1. It could be argued the second third of this episode is a little dull. We do the rounds and establish what our main and secondary players are doing, whilst introducing a new character’s like Matthew Lillard’s antagonist.

However, it’s an opening episode with an action packed start and an exciting ending. We can forgive them taking 10-15 minutes of letting us know where we stand.
I enjoyed it, maybe not quite as much as the opening episode of Season 1, but it teases more to come. I guess my only negative, (if I’m being picky), is that I still think the old Netflix show looks better. Some of the fights (not all) were also still superior in the Netflix version. I’m not sure it is worth really picking it apart in that detail though. This is still a Marvel show after all, but in terms of violence, we are definitely in MA territory once again.
I think one relationship change that happened off-screen, maybe could have been better explored. However, that may be something we find more about down the line as the series progresses. Therefore, I try not to be too critical at this early stage.
There are many full season reviews coming out today, and so far I hear the series gets better as it goes and builds to a good ending. However, I will be experiencing it weekly like you readers and calling it as I see it.
GRADE: B
Enjoyed the opening episode, bookended with a good action scene at one end and a good action/drama scene at the other. Middle was a little bit of a montage catch-up, but acceptable. Looking forward to seeing the Season progress.
That’s about all I’ve got to say about Daredevil: Born Again S2E01 for now folks. As always, let me know your own thoughts and whether you agree with me or not in the comments.
