Kelli O’Hara On The History And Success Of Fallen Angels | INTERVIEW

Kelli O’Hara and Rose Byrne will be shining on the big screen with their performances in the Tony-nominated 2026 Broadway revival of Fallen Angels. The play is a comedy written by  Noël Coward that in the early 1920s was very controversial.

The Synopsis

The play follows two bored, respectably married friends, Julia (Kelli O’Hara, “The Gilded Age”) and Jane (Rose Byrne, “Spy”), who get nervously (and increasingly drunkenly) worked up when they learn that Maurice (Mark Consuelos, “All My Children”), a dashing Frenchman both had affairs with before their marriages, is returning to town. Its frank treatment of women’s sexual pasts shocked some critics and moral watchdogs at the time.

Kelli O’Hara is a Tony Award-winning actress born on April 16, 1976, in Elk City, Oklahoma. She  attended Oklahoma City University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and opera. She studied with voice teacher Florence Birdwell, who had also trained Kristin Chenoweth. Her early years were in theater and her career took off when she played “Clara Johnson” in The Light in the Piazza. Thanks to that successful run, other leading roles came in The Pajama Game, South Pacific, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and The Bridges of Madison County. She won the 2015 Tony for her nuanced portrayal of “Anna Leonowens” in The King and I. O’Hara has been seen in Kiss Me, Kate, and Days of Wine and Roses, to just name a few. She received an Emmy nomination from the web series The Accidental Wolf. This year she has appeared in The Beauty and CBS’s Sheriff Country.

With the upcoming release of Fallen Angels to theaters I was connected with Kelli O’Hara to discuss her participation in the play. We discussed the great Broadway run it had and of course the history and how controversial it must have been over one hundred years ago with the open dialogue about premarital sex and adultery conversations. As well as getting to play alongside Rose Byrne,  how much physical work it took and more!

The Fallen Angels Live Capture of the Roundabout Theatre Production  will be in all cinemas October 22, 2026.
