Kevin Feige Addresses Those Killmonger Back For Black Panther 2 Rumors

Black Panther was a huge hit for Marvel and nothing is more certain than Marvel Studios making a Black Panther 2. In fact, it is expected that Black Panther 2 will be announced as one of the films to appear in 2022 when Marvel announces what’s next sometime this summer. However, until that is announced officially we were going on an educated assumption, until now, because Kevin Feige just told us Ryan Coogler is currently writing Black Panther 2.

One of the intriguing rumors around this sequel was that many of cast had said they would return and more importantly there seemed to be a rumor that Michael B. Jordan would return as Erik Killmonger. It certainly appeared as though Killmonger passed at the end of Black Panther, but as fans have pointed out already, Wakanda has crazy technology and we never saw any kind of funeral. Personally, I think it was a bit of a stretch, and I didn’t quite have the same love in for Jordan’s portrayal of Killmonger as many seemed to have.

Now Feige, speaking with BET recently, said that Coogler is literally just about to start writing it, so anything at this stage about the return of Killmonger is just rumor and speculation, check out the quote.

“The honest answer to that is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie. It’s early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with [producer] Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks.”

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Coogler hasn’t really discussed his outline plans with Feige too much, because let’s face it, Feige had Coogler signed up as soon as Black Panther was done at theaters. So perhaps Coogler gave some hints to the actors during the movie of where he’d potentially take a sequel. Fans have always felt that if nothing else, Killmonger could show up again amongst T’Challa’s ancestors, the former King’s as he himself was King for a period until defeated by T’Challa.

I guess we will have to see what Coogler delivers, but this does appear to be more confirmation of a 2022 release date for Black Panther 2, and that’s got to be good news right?
