While hardly anyone knew anything about the Kingsman brand just a handful of years ago, over the course of two movies, it’s become quite the geek favorite. Even though the sequel wasn’t nearly as good as the original, it’s still a franchise that has a place in many of our hearts, and film director Matthew Vaughn has been hard at work building it out into a bigger series than many anticipated possible.
In addition to the inevitable threequel that will close out the Harry and Eggsy story, he’s also been working on a much-talked-about prequel film, which was introduced to many of us under the title Kingsman: The Great Game. Well, apparently, if you’ve been using that title, you’re an idiot, because it’s not called that, as Vaughn himself told Screen Rant.
“It’s not going to be called The Great Game. Everyone thinks… it makes me laugh.”

But I could have sworn it was called The Great Game. I traced the name all the way back to its origins, and back in June of last year, the name originated from an Empire report, where Matthew Vaughn himself apparently called the prequel film The Great Game.
Sadly, I can only find my initial report on the matter, as the source Empire link now leads to a “Gateway Time-out,” so this is a mistake I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life. Regardless of where this error came from, it sounds like we can look forward to an all-new name eventually, so I guess that’s cool.
