Most moviegoers have wised up to the fact that many studios and filmmakers want them to stay in theaters and pay heed to all of the people who worked hard no making the movie. One clever way of achieving this has been adding fun end credits sequences that tease future movies. Marvel Studios has used this quite effectively, starting with the cameo by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury at the end of the original Iron Man.
Those going to see Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island will want to stay until the very end of the credits for one special scene that teases to come.
Because the scene involves spoiling some of what happens in Kong: Skull Island, only skip ahead and read it if you REALLY want to know what the sequence is so you can decide whether to wait out the long credits.

After the credits come to an end, we’re back in an interrogation room with a two-way glass window in which sits the character played by Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, who as you can guess, survived their ordeal on Skull Island. They’re talking to someone on the other side of the glass who is telling them how the entire mission is classified, but when they demand answers, the two scientists played by Corey Hawkins and Jing Tian (also survivors), come into the room and tell them that they work for Monarch, the organization introduced in 2014’s Godzilla that investigates large prehistoric monsters. (In the film, we learn from John Goodman’s character that they’re the real ones behind the mission to Skull Island as they’re looking for prehistoric creatures that existed there.)
The two scientists then tell them that Skull Island is only the first island that they found in the Pacific Ocean and that there are more monsters like Kong out there. They go onto show slides with redacted versions of what is obviously Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah aka Monster X.
Now if you attended Comic-Con in 2014 and caught the Legendary Pictures panel in Hall H, you’ll remember that then president Thomas Tull teased the audience with a video that had flashes of those three panels. Having that tease at the end of Kong: Skull Island seems to point to the obvious and that Legendary’s next monster movie, Godzilla: King of Monsters, will feature some of the fire-breathing lizard’s greatest nemeses.
And of course, that will all build up to the promised 2020 movie Godzilla vs. Kong, which at this point has yet to announce a director, but it’s being written by Max Borenstein.
