Krysten Ritter Says She Is Done With Jessica Jones

I really enjoyed the first season of Jessica Jones as it gave me the opportunity to see David Tennant (my Doctor) as an evil and sadistic ass hole! I thought the entire cast, save the creepy brother and sister, did an amazing job and I found Krysten Ritter’s title character to be executed perfectly. For the show that is, I feel the comic fans may have some complaints. However, Season 2 left a lot to be desired and ranks very, very low on the 13 seasons of shows from Marvel and Netflix. Then came Season 3, which I really enjoyed. Again, the 13 episode order meant there was a lot of filler that bloated the season, but there are a solid 8 episodes here that rival Season 1.

We know that Marvel and Netflix have gone their separate ways and all of the Netflix shows featuring the Defenders (and The Punisher) have been canceled, but there’s been hope and rumors of revival at Disney+ or even Hulu (which Disney essentially owns outright now) given the news that Ghost Rider will be on the latter. Well, maybe some will but not Jessica. At least not with Krysten Ritter who said as much in a recent interview at TVLine:

“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so. I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”

That seems pretty final to me. I am okay with this too. The ending of Season 3 has both finality and an open door, but I don’t think you can raise the stakes on Jessica much more than they already have been. I would love to see her pop up in a Hulu Luke Cage series or Heroes For Hire series with Iron Fist and Misty Knight, but I am happy with her series ending.

I know most people want to see more from Frank Castle’s Punisher and the aforementioned Heroes For Hire idea, but I want to see more new heroes on an adult-oriented streaming platform. I know I would gladly kill small woodland creatures in a sacrifice to Disney to get a Moon Knight show based on Jeff Lemire’s run, and could you imagine a properly done Blade streaming show? Combine those two with Ghost Rider and we could get a really cool set of supernatural shows dealing with the likes of Konshu, Black Heart, Mephisto, and of course vampires.

What do you think of Ritter’s words? Did you enjoy the final season? Let us know in the comments below!
