Labyrinth | Toby Froud on Behind-The-Scenes As a Baby Toddler in Iconic Movie

Toby Froud in Labyrinth

In the classical fantasy film Labyrinth, Toby Froud’s entertainment career started immediately as a baby toddler. It made him one of the most recognizable babies in cinematic history.

Now, almost four decades later, Labyrinth is reissued by Shout! Studios with The Him Henson Co. digitally so a new generation can witness the 1980s breakthrough cult classic along with the tale of The Dark Crystal.

The two films were considered one of the greatest cultural achievements of master puppeteer Jim Henson.

Here is the description of Labyrinth:

Labyrinth, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, was originally released in 1986. The film is an unforgettable fantasy adventure that follows Sarah Williams (Connelly) as she makes her way through the labyrinth of the Goblin King Jareth (Bowie) in search of her little brother Toby. A mainstay of the fantasy genre with its spectacular visual effects and ground-breaking animatronics, Labyrinth is of special interest to David Bowie fans worldwide as the film contains original songs written and recorded by Bowie, especially for the film.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with Toby Froud, who played the baby toddler Toby in the film. We discussed the behind-the-scenes moments, his parents, and even his career that took him into stop-motion animation and full circle to The Dark Crystal, which his father also worked on.

Toby Froud is most well-known as the baby toddler in the striped pajamas kidnapped by The Goblin King in Jim Henson’s film Labyrinth. Although it was his only appearance in films, he stayed in the industry as a puppeteer and sculptor, which took him through many projects with Weta Workshop, Legacy Effects, and Laika. His credits included The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, King Kong, Cowboys & Aliens, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link. He was the design supervisor for two years in the 2019 series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which served as the prequel to The Dark Crystal. Also, he was a puppet sculptor in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal will be available for purchase and rented digitally on February 6.
