Childless people certainly fall in love with all kinds of animals. Oftentimes, they will treat their fur babies better than humans with tender, love, and care. In A24’s Lamb, it brings a twisted and bizarre horror film about a couple raising a lamb as their own.
International Swedish Actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) headlines this indie horror film. The rest of the cast includes Hilmir Snaer Goenason, Bjorn Hlynur Hardolsson, and Ingvar E. Sigurosson. Valdimar Johannsson directed the film from a script by Johannsson and Sjon.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Lamb:
A childless couple in rural Iceland makes an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Johannsson.
This film is one of those twisted horror movies in the same category as Hereditary, Midsommar, and The Witch. Audiences will be scratching their heads figuring out the bizarre elements of the film. In fact, this supernatural folktale made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival with audiences and critics mum on the exact plot of the movie—except telling us to “check it out yourself.”
As for the trailer, the creepiness of horror turned to light-heartedness happy moments and back to horror again—set the tone of the movie. Not to mention, we do get a certain glimpse of a half-child/half-lamb and black beady eyes of sheep that stare right through your soul.
We can’t wait till this film comes out in theaters on Friday, October 8.
