According to co-writer Stephen Glover, brother of star Donald, the Lando Series is now a movie. The show was announced a long time ago, but simply didn’t go anywhere. Then recently we learned that the Glover brothers were taking over writing duties, for what we thoughts was a series. Now the less famous Glover brother has confirmed Lando is a movie when he appeared on the Pablo Torres Finds Out Podcast.
As reported by Variety, here is what Glover had to say.
“It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” That’s all the info Stephen could provide. Lucasfilm confirmed the news afterwards.
Now as much as I understand the need for Star Wars to get back into movie theatres, this one baffles me slightly. I kinda prefer the idea of smaller stories that Lando can explore across a full season. A movie needs to have an excitement to it that I’m not sure we’d get from Lando. That of course greatly depends on the story being told. I just think of all the series to turn into a movie, Lando is not the one I expected.
Where would that movie fall? Is there currently any plan for when it is due to film? I guess until the strike ends, the writing can’t really be advanced any further. Ergo, until we have a completed script that Lucasfilm are happy with, I would not place any bets on this definitely filming. It may well do, especially with Glover’s pull, but this seems at around the same stage as James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie. In other words, it only exists as a concept for now.
