This weekend saw some new Black Widow to Disney+ rumors, but it looks like they have been debunked. Black Widow was due to be released on May 1st, but due to Coronavirus closures, that date is delayed. As of yet, we do not have a release date for Black Widow, and there was some hope from fans it would appear on Disney+ instead.
This weekend saw some rumors started by Grace Randolph, that talks were happening at Disney. Randolph suggested that Black Widow could still be passed onto Disney+ and not get a theatrical release. I never believed this rumor, though I do think it could be a good move for Disney. The lack of box office profits would see Black Widow classified as a flop if it doesn’t get a theatrical release. However, any loss of profit may be soothed by increased Disney+ sales, and a general Disney PR boost? However, I never once thought Disney would actually make this concession.

What’s #Disney thinking?

Now CBM has reached out to sources at Disney to ask them about this rumor specifically. CBM’s source has debunked the Disney+ rumor and claims that Black Widow will definitely get a theatrical release. When that theatrical release for Black Widow will happen is still unknown? There is really no telling how long this lockdown will last for, things could change for Disney if it goes on for a long time. I would not expect the possibility of Black Widow going to Disney+ to even be a consideration at this early stage though. There was no mention of Mulan in CBM‘s report, only Black Widow.
The entire upcoming slate of the MCU is more than likely going to be delayed. When we eventually get a release date for Black Widow, we will likely also find out about more delays. The World will get back to some semblance of normality eventually, but how long is that going to take? Right now it’s just too early to say, and any Black Widow release predictions are going to be wild guesses at best.
What do you think of all these Black Widow to Disney+ rumors? Should Disney consider going straight to Disney+, or should be they just wait for all this to blow over? Share your thoughts below in the usual spot.
