Romance novelist Jackie Collins certainly made her mark in the 1980s. As one of the world’s best selling novelist, she paved a way in feminism in terms of both career and sexual confidence. Her path to this fandom was a unique path that the Laura Fairrie’s documentary Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story hopes to tell.

Collins sold more than a half a billion copies of her 32 novels in more than 40 countries, in which eight of them were produced as movies. Her glamorous work included Chances, Hollywood Wives, and The Santangelos, which continues to captivate readers around the world.

With an intimate narrative, Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story tells her life story with family photographs, home movie footage, recordings of Collins’ novels, and excerpts from Collins’ personal diaries.

Her story starts before the Me Too movement in experiencing Hollywood’s casting couch in hopes to follow the footsteps of her older sibling Joan Collins. As the glitz and glamor faded, she began to fictionalize these true tales of her Hollywood experiences into these novels. Many dedicated fans learned about sex from her books, and the love relationships from the stories.

The documentary looks at her life from her domineering father, distant mother, difficult marriage to Wallace Austin, and then later a supporting love of her life, Oscar Lerman, who supported her career at every step.

The film has interviews from actress Joan Collins, many business confidents, and her daughters. They would comment and remark many moments and thoughts in her life that become a part of her legacy.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director Laura Fairrie, daughter Rory Green, and daughter Tiffany Lerman about the documentary. We talked about Jackie Collins’ legacy, her journals, and the many things we should learn about the real life author.

Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story has its world premiere today at the Tribeca Film Festival at 5 p.m. ET.

CNN scheduled a June 27 broadcast premiere with a live stream for subscribers via CNNgo. The following day on Monday, June 28, it is available via cable/satellite systems, CNNgo platforms, and CNN mobile apps.
