Lea Thompson To Pitch Howard The Duck Movie To Marvel

Howard the Duck isn’t really a film that’s endured. Hell, it wasn’t really a film that was able to thrive in the era in which it came out. So when it was revealed that Howard the Duck would be making an appearance in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, many fans were more than a little shocked? Could this mean that Marvel Studios was considering an actual Howard the Duck movie? Probably not. More than anything, it was a nod to knowing fans of both the comic and film.

But that’s not to say it couldn’t happen if in the right hands. However, if there is one person we wouldn’t have expected to spearhead it, it’s Lea Thompson, the actress who starred in the much-maligned film back in the ’80s.

Speaking with The Inquisitr, Thompson discussed her plans to not only pitch the film but to direct it:

“To tell you the actual truth, I am going to Marvel to pitch Howard the Duck, a new movie. In like three weeks. I want to direct the ‘Howard the Duck’ remake [laughs]. Why not dream big, right?”

As stated above, this is more than a little unexpected, but in recent years, Thompson has turned her eyes towards directing, taking on episodes of The Goldbergs and Switched at Birth. But will she have the right vision for the character? Well, chances are we won’t know for a good while, but we do know that Marvel Studios is never one to rule anything out.
