Legendary Luchador Blue Demon Jr., Dan Carrillo Levy, and Eugenio Villamar On Bringing Lucha Libra Back Into The Pop Culture Spotlight | SDCC Interview

Blue Demon Jr.

San Diego Comic-Con is just the place to celebrate superheroes and characters from around the globe. In Mexican culture, those superheroes included the iconic luchadores. For decades they have thrilled fans in the ring as well as in films, taking on horror icons like the Mummy, Frankenstein, zombies, and many more. This cross-promotion allowed their personas to be the larger-than-life heroes that every kid loves to try and emulate.

In our modern day, this includes luchadores like Blue Demon Jr., who inherited his father’s mask. Blue Demon, grew to legendary status in the 50s. His persona was featured in many comics as well as over 27 films. To this day, his iconic mask has been featured on murals, tattoos and so much more.

Blue Demon Jr. now continues that tradition and is looking to bring Mexican lucha libre back into the pop culture spotlight. In partnership with Exile Content Studio and Moxie 88, he is working on bringing his likeness back to comics, television, animation, merchandising, and film on a worldwide scale.

To kick off the partnership, an upcoming feature film has been announced titled, “The Demon” along with the cover of their new comic book with artist Raul Valdes.

Blue Demon Jr.

LRM Online’s Manny Gomez spoke with Blue Demon Jr. as well as the screenwriting duo of Dan Carrillo Levy and Eugenio Villamar. During our conversation, we talked about their partnership and what it means to them to work to bring Blue Demon Jr. into the spotlight via a variety of formats.

As well as what we can expect from the upcoming comic book and a little information about the film. One of my favorite moments of the interview is when Blue Demon Jr. speaks about the importance of never taking off the mask. It was a fantastic interview that you can check out in Spanish below!
