Lena Khan Talks About Her New Comedy-Adventure From Disney Flora & Ulysses [Exclusive Interview]

For 2021 I will take as many feel-good movies as possible. This week Disney+ delivers such a title with Flora & Ulysses. This family-fun comedy-adventure is based on the Newbery Award-winning book by Kate DiCamillo. It follows the adventures of a ten-year-old girl named Flora. She is a comic book fan as well as a self-proclaimed cynic. We find her going through a bit of a rough patch as her parents have recently separated.

This story is all too relatable to many families around that world and is a strange situation that is not too often a focal point in kids’ films. Despite the fact it does focus on the serious topic of the separation of parents and their career doldrums, it’s still a lot of fun. Especially with the great job by Matilda Lawler as Flora. It also doesn’t hurt to have Alyson Hannigan and Ben Schwartz playing your parents. All that and we didn’t

Flora & Ulysses

Here is the synopsis of Flora & Ulysses provided by Disney:

Flora is amazed to discover he possesses unique superhero powers which take them on an adventure of humorous complications that ultimately change Flora’s life–and her outlook–forever.

Flora & Ulysses

As I have mentioned above the Flora & Ulysses is a lot of fun. Besides the wonderful work of the actors and actresses, a lot of the credit should be given to the director Lena Khan. She did a great job at putting this film together. She also managed to put in a treasure trove of Easter eggs from Superheroes, to Buffy the Vampire slayer and everything in-between. Dare I say there may even be a giant penny from someone’s hideout in the background!

Ahead of the film’s release LRM Online had the opportunity to talk with Lena Khan about her work on the film. During our interview, we talk about all those awesome Easter eggs. Also, talk about the balance in themes in the film. She gives us insight into what it was like to work with Lawler as well as a Squirrel that wasn’t usually there. It’s a fun conversation that will hopefully enhance your experience with Flora & Ulysses this weekend. You can check it out down below!

Disney’s Flora & Ulysses will be released on Disney+ This Friday, Feburary 19th.
