Ever since they hired Halle Bailey to take on the role of Ariel in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic The Little Mermaid (and that they were apparently looking to hire Harry Styles to pay Prince Eric), it became clear what the focus of it would be: the musical talent. Normally, you’d think this would be obvious, but in the past, the House of Mouse had hired more standard actors rather than your singers and dancers.

Now, with the latest casting choice, we can see that musical approach is indeed being focused on. Variety is reporting that Daveed Diggs is in talks to play everyone’s favorite musical crab, Sebastian.

Diggs is perhaps best known for his work as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the breakout Broadway hit Hamilton. He’s also done some film work in the critically-acclaimed Blindspotting and Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw, in addition to some random TV work on shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Diggs will be joining a cast that includes Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem, who will be playing Ursula and Triton, respectively.

What do you think of Diggs’ casting as Sebastian, and is he the right guy to bring “Under the Sea” to life in this live-action take? Let us know down below!
