Wow. This isn’t news I ever expected to hit. In fact, there are many different layers of unexpectedness here. I never expected we’d be getting a live-action Little Nemo In Slumberland film, I never expected it to be directed by Francis Lawrence, I never expected it to star Jason Momoa, and finally, I never expected it to feature a gender-swapped “Little Nemo” character. But if I’m too believe a new report from Discussing Film, that’s exactly what’s happening.
Yes, Little Nemo in Slumberland is getting a live-action adaptation for Netflix. Yes, The Hunger Games saga’s Francis Lawrence will be serving as director. Yes, Jason Momoa will star as the “nine-foot tall creature that is half-man, half-beast” Flip. Finally, yes, it sounds like the film will be starring a young girl, Nema, who travels to a mystical dreamland in search of her father.
The film will be based on the original comic strip called Little Nemo in Slumberland, and I was first introduced to it in the animated film Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, which was a Japanese-American flick that had gone through countless creatives during its time in production hell. The resulting film was one that I loved, and I can’t wait to see what Lawrence and co. come up with for this reimagining.
