Live-Action Lilo And Stitch Remake On The Way

Just when you thought Disney couldn’t remake any more of their animated films, they go and pull this. According to a report from THR, they are digging into their long cache of films and pulling out Lilo and Stitch as the next big property to get remade in live-action form.

Interestingly enough, they aren’t really going to a big, experienced writer to pen the script, but are instead turning to up-and-comer Mike Van Waes with only one short under his belt and a couple horror projects including a Wizard of Oz reimagining and The Crooked Man, the latter of which is the latest in the Conjuring franchise.

Lilo and Stitch tells the story of a young orphaned girl and her older sister who discover a fugitive dog-like alien. While a fun little movie, it very much brings with it more serious themes that Disney experimented with in this down era. It’s looked back on fondly, but it isn’t really considered when discussing the best of the best over at Disney.

In fact, hearing about this movie reminds me of some of the other less-than-great animated fare we got around this time, including Atlantis and Treasure Planet. Could those be up for live-action remakes soon? I wouldn’t put it past Disney.
