Beware, film fans, because the era of mascot film adaptations is on the way. We already know that Nintendo is working with Illumination to bring Super Mario to the big screen, and we also know that we’ll be getting a weird, live-action/CG hybrid for the Sonic the Hedgehog film, but there’s one other big video game star headed to the big screen: Mega Man.
Longtime gamers will recognize the character right away. For over 30 years, Mega Man has been a staple of incredibly difficult 2D platforming, and while his games have experimented in many other genres, it all seems to come back to old-school platforming. Growing up, he was one of the coolest characters out there. A kid with an arm-cannon? I’m so down.

Apparently, Hollywood is now realizing that a live-action movie is worth pursuing after all these years, as Capcom has confirmed that a feature based on the iconic character is in the works. It is set to be written and directed by Nerve and Paranormal Activity 4 creative duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
But if you’re a typical moviegoer with no interest in video games, that’s okay. Apparently, they are aiming to appeal to a whole lot of people, including standard action movie fans. From the sound of it, they won’t be skimping on the budget, and are adamant in making sure it brings the “grand production and entertainment value” viewers have grown accustomed to.
