Live-Action Mulan Director Shares First Set Photo!

Earlier this week, Disney announced that their upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated classic, Mulan, had officially started production. Said production would span new Zealand and China, and would feature a global cast, including Liu Yifei as the titular Mulan. We also got our first look at the character, at last giving us a live-action face to the animated icon.

But that’s not all the production is sharing this week. The film’s director, Niki Caro, took to Instagram to show fans another shot from the film, which features a character (Mulan, I assume) standing in front of a green-screened picturesque landscape, which includes a beautiful tree.

Perhaps most notably, Caro titled this photo “Reflections.” Fans of the animated film will recognize that word from the song, “Reflection,” where Mulan sings about her desire for her reflection to show who she is on the inside.

Given the overall look of this image, it seems possible that the pond we see in the foreground could be something the character looks at in this same moment. It’s unclear at this point if the film will feature the actual song “Reflection,” but last year, the director stated the film will include music, so a similar moment in this movie seems likely.

What do you think of this new photo from set? Does it get you excited for the film to come? Let us know down below!
