Steven Soderbergh, like Kevin Smith, was a bit premature in announcing his retirement from directing films back in 2013 when he claimed that Side Effects would be his final movie. Soderbergh cited the “absolutely horrible” treatment of directors when he made the announcement, stating that directors who make a lot of money are respected more than those actually making great films. Since 2013, Soderbergh has been true to his word, only working in television, but now we have the first trailer for his next theatrical release, Logan Lucky.
Logan Lucky follows the Logan Brothers, played by Channing Tatum and Adam Driver, who must enlist the help of Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina. The impressive cast also includes Katherine Waterson (Alien: Covenant), Seth MacFarlane, Sebastian Stan (Captain America: Civil War), Katie Holmes, and Hilary Swank.

Now, that’s a change of pace for Daniel Craig, best known for his more brooding roles in the 007 films, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! Every line Craig says in the trailer is downright hilarious, with expert delivery. That’s not to discount the rest of the cast; Tatum and Driver also bring the funny as do the Logan Brothers, who may or may not be as simple as people say (yes, people say that). Just in case Kylo Ren doesn’t lose a hand in Star Wars: The Last Jedi or Episode IX, as is Skywalker tradition, we can all rest easy knowing we’ve seen him without the appendage in Logan Lucky.
