Looks Like The Ewoks Are Back For Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker

The Ewoks, were for me, the worst part of an otherwise good film when it comes to Return of the Jedi. I felt like the menacing and oppressive Empire were reduced to bumbling fools in Jedi and that the Ewoks were a major part. If only one could go back in time and tell Lucas to stick to the original plan of Wookiees for the end of Jedi.

It wasn’t the Ewoks themselves that were the issue, not the moments in the Ewok village, it was the fact that I was supposed to believe these little fur balls with arrows (shooting so slowly they’d have struggled to pierce a thin T-shirt never mind the armour worn by Stormtroopers) were the key to turning the tide against the Empire.

So we want them back for more movies right? Well, I’d probably be happy to never see them again if honest, but too bad, because Ewoks are back for The Rise of Skywalker. How do we know this, well if you check out the new featurette above, then you may simply think the Ewok seen is something from Return of the Jedi, but clearly here, Warwick Davis is an adult and that’s definitely new. I think it pretty much confirms that Davis is playing Wicket again in the new movie.

I’m pretty sure that this time they won’t rise up and defeat the Empire, erm I mean the First Order again, but it is yet another link to Return of the Jedi which I don’t feel is necessarily needed. We already have the throne room from the Death Star II, we have the Emperor and seemingly a showdown in his new throne room, and we also have what look like Jabba’s Skiff (design wise) in a desert chase.

Considering how similar The Force Awakens was to A New Hope, should we be a little worried here? I guess we will find out soon enough, exactly 20 days for me till I see the movie in theaters. If you want the LRM opinions, then you can catch LRMornings on December 20th for spoiler free reactions from Kyle Malone and myself, then we have later that afternoon a special Last Call Podcast with I think around 6 of us getting into the weeds on this latest Star Wars movie.
