It looks like we know the name of The Matrix 4. Apparently the fourth Matrix movie will be called Matrix: Resurrections as per some crew mementos that have appeared online. This would follow the naming convention thus far for Matrix movies. The titles being The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, Matrix: Revolutions, and now Matrix: Resurrections. Check out the details courtesy of Nerding Reviews.
Titles of The #Matrix4 has leaked online by the makeup artist who worked with the cast. The new sequel will bring back at least two dead characters to the Matrix. The title of Matrix: Resurrections is also apt given what we know about the movie. Both Trinity and Neo died within Matrix: Revolutions, and yet both are back in Matrix: Resurrections. Neo being resurrected makes a lot of sense given what the previous movies established about the character. Trinity on the other hand is a different story, and it’s trickier to work out why she would also be resurrected? Trinity also died whilst disconnected from The Matrix, whereas Neo was plugged into the mainframe when he died to save machines and Humans alike.

The question for me would be, why? Is this sequel set very far in the future, enough that the machines have gone back to the way things were before? Last we knew Neo’s sacrifice was going to ensure that the machines would leave Zion alone, and allow those who wanted out of The Matrix to leave. The Oracle and the Architect seemed to agree upon all this, so what purpose would Neo have? It makes sense that the Matrix would once again throw up it’s anomaly. However, if those who cannot live within The Matrix are allowed to leave, what is Neo required for?
I guess that all remains to be seen. For me the plot will definitely be scrutinized to find some sort of reasonable explanation. Yet, if Matrix: Resurrections is up there with the original and not those awful sequels, I’ll be happy. Though, as a franchise, I think The Matrix shot itself in the foot a long time ago.
