LRM Exclusive: Aubrey Plaza Had Written A Grumpy Cat Feature That Will Never Get Made

We live in a very interesting age of filmmaking. Not only can Hollywood turn toys and board games into full feature films or series, but they can also turn internet sensations into stories for mass consumption. Perhaps one of the biggest ones out there was Grumpy Cat, the internet celebrity known for the permanent frown etched on her cut little face. Tardar Sauce (the cat’s real name) caught fire almost immediately back in 2012.

You may remember back in 2014 that Lifetime produced a film which starred Aubrey Plaza as the voice of Grumpy Cat herself. Sadly, the cat passed away last month due to UTI complications, and in light of this, LRM Online‘s own Gig Patta asked about this development while speaking with Plaza, who was promoting the film Child’s Play.

“Yes, I’m very upset about this,” Plaza told us. “I was completely shocked that she died so soon, because she wasn’t that old. I had a lot of plans for Grumpy and I. In fact, I had just recently finished a screenplay of a feature film that was going to star me and Grumpy Cat, and I am so sad about it, because I had been working on it all year, and I wanted to work with Grumpy again. But now she is watching over us, so it’s time to move on, but I’ll never forget her.”

Child’s Play hits theaters on June 21!
