LRM’S Most Anticipated TV Shows Of 2019 | A Breaking Geek Discussion

Welcome to Breaking Geek, a column where uber-geek Nick Doll offers commentary and reactions to the most interesting news of the week (or whatever he feels like), using his expansive knowledge of all things geek! Today I am joined by fellow LRM writers Cam Clark, Stephon White of I’d Buy That For A Dollar, and editor-in-chief Joseph Jammer Medina! Huh, small crowd. A lot of the gang didn’t have a… Most Anticipated TV Show Of 2019!

Sometimes you don’t want to go to the movies. Sometimes you don’t need to go to the movies. Because there’s a wide world of TV out there, whether it be streaming, on cable… or… really everywhere.

So, what is the LRM crew excited to sit on their couch and watch in 2019? Let’s punch it!

Doll:  Stranger Things 3 and Arrested Development Season 5, Part II.

Yes, I cheated and picked two. But, as alluded to earlier, someone had to make up for Jammer and Kyle’s laziness! Geez, guys, way to leave a fellow Geek hangin’.

Arrested Development is my favorite show of all time, and has been since the night the pilot aired. Such clever writing the likes of which the world has never seen! Sure, the show has had its ups and downs, but I still love it all! I’ve seen it all dozens of times including Season 5, Part I, so where the hell is Part II, Netflix? Season 5 started slow and weaker like Season 4, but by the final three episodes, it really hit its stride, only to have all momentum lost when Netflix decided to split the season.

I once tweeted Netflix about when it would return and they responded! They let me know to follow them on social media. Boooo!

There’s no way I could not also talk about Stranger Things 3! My favorite program since Arrested Development hasn’t aired new episodes since October 2017! That being said, take your time. Don’t rush it, Duffer Bros. I want quality, not quick satisfaction. Hell, maybe I’m more excited about it because I’ve been made to wait over a year; it certainly worked with Westworld when that show took a year hiatus. Though I wouldn’t call that show’s second season nearly as successful as Stranger Things 3.

More impressive than Stranger Things feeling crafted just for me since episode one, was the quality of its sophomore season. I can’t wait to see what the Duffer Bros. have cooked up for our favorite residents of Hawkins, Indiana in 2019!

Cam: Loads of TV shows that I excited for this year, I want to see Stranger Things 3 like Nick, I am also interested in several new season of some of my favorite shows. Some examples would be Better Call Saul, The Man in the High Castle, Altered Carbon and probably a few others. There is one that stands for me above not only any other TV series this year, but also any single piece of entertainment due for release in 2019 and that’s the incomparable Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones is perhaps not only the biggest TV show in the world, but could well be the biggest show of all time. April 2019 will mark the beginning of Season 8 i.e. the finale of Thrones. All these years wondering how it would all end, who would end up on the Iron Throne, who will survive and who will perish. In many ways, it seems impossible for Game of Thrones to meet all fans expectations, which will vary depending on how those fans personally see the story going so far. Some fans were disappointed in Season 7 of the show, but not me, this show continues to tick all the boxes for me personally. I recently found myself tentatively toying with the idea of starting another watch through from Season 1 again. Something I did both before and after Season 7 hit screens. No doubt I should just give in and get it over with, but I need to time it so I am just finishing Season 7 before Season 8 hits in April.

Make mine HBO for 2019.

Stephon: TV shows are having an amazing time. There’s a load of content to choose from. Picking a favorite is honestly sort of tough. Between streaming, network, and web content, there’s a little something for everyone. Unfortunately, my numero-uno pick was recently canceled, and will not be renewed for a third season. My pick would have been Netflix/Marvel’s Luke Cage.

Alas, season 3 isn’t happening. At least not with Netflix having to do anything with it. Maybe one day it will be revived by Disney’s streaming service. Something’s telling me it won’t be revived anytime soon. So then, what show is my most anticipated of 2019? I am looking forward to season 8 of Game of Thrones. A series full of epic battles, political intrigue, magic, and dragons. I’ll be tuning in for the epic conclusion of the battle for the iron throne.

Jammer: Well, this is sad. There is a disturbing absence of The Mandalorian on this list so far. Next year will see Disney launch their Disney+ streaming service, and with it the promised of new Star Wars and Marvel original live-action content. The Mandalorian will be kicking that off, and will essentially act as the Titans of this service — you know, the flagship series that will be the real seller. Between the amazing cast and talent on the show, I have all the faith in the world that the show will knock our socks off.
