Oh, Man of Steel 2. We can’t seem to go a month without at least one story popping up about this long-desired sequel to Zack Snyder’s 2013 film. While Batman v Superman originally started out as a Man of Steel sequel, it very quickly turned into something more — with Batman coming into the picture and then Wonder Woman. Before long, it became more of a universe-building film than a standalone movie.
In the years since Batman v Superman hit, fans have been asking about whether or not Superman would actually ever get the chance to lead his own film again. In the time since then, there have been plenty of rumors circulating about filmmakers like Matthew Vaughn potentially taking the helm…but what about Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Chris McQuarrie?

McQuarrie was asked if he’d ever do a superhero movie by CinePOP, and here was his overall response on that front:
“I feel like if the story was right, if the character was right. That’s what draws me more. It’s less about whether it’s a superhero movie or science fiction. I’ve worked in everything. I’ve done historical dramas, science fiction, and action. I just really like the story and the actors.”
Okay, so what about Man of Steel 2? The interviewer asked that question directly, and McQuarrie answered with:
“If Henry [Cavill] asked me to, sure, why not?”
Now we know what we have to do: get Henry Cavill to ask McQuarrie to direct. Of course, it’s not that easy. DC Films is a living and breathing ecosystem, and if the past couple years have proven anything, it’s that films don’t just happen over there. They need to be a very intentional part of the bigger plan, and I’m still not sure if a second Man of Steel movie is something that’s a huge priority for them — though then again, maybe they don’t even know themselves.
