Man Of Steel 2: Matthew Vaughn Confirms He Has Had Talks To Direct The Sequel

One of the many projects DC has planned for their DC Extended Universe is a sequel to Man of Steel. Zack Snyder directed the first film, establishing the DCEU, before going on to direct Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League. Though Snyder’s future within the DCEU is unknown after his departure from Justice League due to a family tragedy, we do know he will not be directing Man of Steel 2. But, one name that has been floating around the project has been Matthew Vaughn, director of both Kingsman films and Kick-Ass.

HeyUGuys spoke to Vaughn at a press junket for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and the director confirmed he has indeed had talks to possibly helm Man of Steel 2:

“I am planning another Kingman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.

If somebody asks me to do Indiana Jones, most of the superheros or Star Wars the fanboy in me can’t help but be excited.”

Vaughn would be a fantastic addition to the DCEU, assuming he is allowed to do his thing. He may need to tone down the violence from his normal fare, but his style, including the use of vibrant colors, could be just what the doctor ordered for ole’ Supes. Especially after the criticism that Man of Steel was too dark, both visually and narrative-wise, for a lighter character such as Superman.
