Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn is the Best Character in ‘SUICIDE SQUAD’

The character of Harley Quinn has had a place in many fans’ hearts ever since she was first introduced in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES back in the 1990s. Not only was she a great, humanizing aspect to the Joker, but her rich and nuanced back story was somewhat tragic and deeply affecting.

She’s always been a fan favorite, but with the recent ARKHAM games, her popularity certainly seemed to skyrocket. With her increased sex appeal, and more realistic take, she was a character that was poised to make it big in a film.

Fast forward to now, and WOLF OF WALL STREET actress Margot Robbie is set to bring that character to life in the film SUICIDE SQUAD.

In a way, this seemed to be the perfect character for her. In WOLF OF WALL STREET, she was “really glammed-up,” and she had the deep desire to get down and dirty in a future role. The upcoming LEGEND OF TARZAN role really seemed to fill that void, but at the end of the day, Robbie also wanted to be more than a love interest.

When asked by David Ayer to take on the role of Harley Quinn, “for the first time,” she said in an interview with OysterMag, “I thought that I had the best character in the movie. I wouldn’t trade my character in Suicide Squad for anyone else’s.”

Indeed, based on what we’ve seen so far in the three trailers, Robbie’s version of Quinn seems to embody what fans love most about the character. In the interview, Robbie went on to praise the source material, as well as the rabid fans who go to such great lengths at conventions with their own costumes.

“The comics are rad. I hadn’t read any growing up, but now I’m obsessed. I read them in my own time. We went to Comic-Con this year and I didn’t get to be in and amongst it because we were shooting, but the energy is insane. People are nuts. I could go as Harley Quinn in the actual costume from the movie, and somebody there would have a better one.”
