In Star Wars: The Last Jedi we are likely to learn a great deal more about Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. While we didn’t even get to hear him speak in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we should get our fill of Luke this time around.
Many of the early reactions to the film are overwhelmingly positive (We saw the film, and our review will be up tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET), and that of course bodes well, but as far as how Luke Skywalker himself feels about the upcoming film, it could be quite some time before his feelings are revealed. Mark Hamill, the actor who plays the Jedi Master recently spoke with Rolling Stone and said not to expect his opinion on the film anytime soon:
“The movie is finished, it belongs to the public. So if people are expecting me to come out and weigh in with what I think about it, they’re going to be disappointed, because it takes me a long time. I’m just about ready to talk about Empire Strikes Back! [laughs] And then I’ll get on to Return of the Jedi. Because it takes me a long time.”

Hamill’s silence makes me uncomfortable, but I can’t see this film being bad, so that leads me to believe he may not be fully ok with where the film takes Luke.
Many of us have heard or read things about how Hamill wasn’t on board with the direction the film was taking Luke Skywalker, this fact both makes me excited and nervous. Disney is continuing the story of one of the most iconic characters in the history of film, I just hope they don’t do something they can’t undo.
