We’ve seen far too little footage from this fall’s Thor: Ragnarok movie. Only one trailer so far! Now granted, it was one helluva trailer, but Marvel fans always demand more, more, more. One assumes that we’ll learn something at this weekend’s D23 expo and next week’s San Diego Comic-Con. So we were all pretty excited around LRM today when actor (and frequent Hulkster) Mark Ruffalo posted this intriguing note on Twitter:
Saw new Thor3 trailer today. Amazing!!! Guess who wins in a fight between Thor and Hulk? There seems to be a little confusion. You'll see.
— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) July 13, 2017
OK, that’s cool. We’ve got confirmation of a new trailer (but no drop date). It also seems like we’ll be seeing a little more of that Thor vs. Hulk throwdown too… but we’re not too sure what the “confusion” comment is all about. Is Hulk brainwashed? Is Loki contesting the victory? So many questions.
Since Ruffalo’s tweet doesn’t give us a whole lot of info to go on, let’s have a conversation about Hulk. For starters, does anyone know if Hulk speaks in Thor: Ragnarok? One of my biggest gripes about Hulk’s solo and team-up MCU appearances is that he barely talks. Now any Marvel comics, or Marvel video game, fan knows that Hulk is a talker and he’s often pretty damned funny — something that would probably work quite well in this film. Sure, Hulk’s got a limited vocabulary, and he speaks about himself in the third-person (always a bit weird), but we need more interaction with Thor than just “Smash” and “Puny.” Hulk is not just a one-note rage monster, but unfortunately that’s how he’s been portrayed thus far in the MCU. Hopefully we’ll get a more verbose version of the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok.
