Everybody and their mother knows that there will be a sequel to Black Panther. Those same everbodies, and mothers, were surprised when that sequel was not announced as part of Marvel’s Phase 4. The first film was a cultural event that became the top-grossing MCU film until the release of Avengers: Endgame.
Nothing is really known about the sequel except that Chadwick Boseman will return as the title character and Ryan Coogler will be directing again. However, thanks to Martin Freeman we can add one more returning name to our list. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor confirmed he’ll be returning to the MCU as his Agent Everett Ross character.
“As far as I know, I will be [returning]. As far as I know, I will be in another Black Panther. That’s my understanding. As to when that will happen, I don’t know.”
Was there really any doubt that he would return? Of course not, but I (and I’m sure all of you are too) am disappointed that we don’t have a clue as to when Black Panther 2 will be hitting the big screen. I think it’s a safe assumption that Phase 5 is the likely target. We know there will be a new Avengers team, and if they follow the comics we may see the King of Wakanda become the leader of the new team.
